Challenge:
A global organization faced replacement of an existing enterprise web application. Used to manage entry and approval of employee applications, this rules-driven workflow web app involved up to 4200 data entry fields and four levels of data entry, review, and approval per application. The legacy system, usable only by English-speakers, was difficult to customize and built on obsolete technology that was no longer economical to support. Because the existing system lacked essential features, much of the world remained on the old, manual paper process, making no use of the automated system. A new Java application, required to provide the original functionality plus incorporate a number of new features (including internationalization), had to be available for world-wide rollout in a short timeframe. The customer had an approved budget but no available staff.
Solution:
STG was selected as the outsourcing partner for this million-dollar project. We carefully selected a team of nine to deliver the internationalized, web-based enterprise system.
STG delivered this complex web app ahead of schedule and under budget, allowing the customer to commission additional valuable features that were outside the original scope. The application is fully internationalized and already localized in Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese -- with additional languages to follow. The customers are especially happy with the extra features STG delivered. The global support manager described the measurable benefits of the new system saying, “You have no idea how much time I save with the user simulation feature you added. It has greatly simplified my job to see exactly what the user is seeing. Debugging their issues is now a snap.”
Result:
The system went into production on schedule and within budget with a number of bonus features. Rollout of the system to onboard users was seamless. The system has since been rolled out worldwide to new users, allowing the automation of tens of thousands of complex transactions, the replacement of a multitude of manual paper processes, and the elimination of duplicate data entry.
